Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) has announced the appointment of Katharine Photiou to head of workplace DC – product & proposition.

Photiou joins LGIM from Barclays, where she was head of workplace savings, and will report to Aaron Meder, LGIM head of investments.

Before Barclays, Photiou was at Mercer and Friends Provident, where she was head of DC corporate strategy and design.

She said: "I am delighted to join LGIM - I have admired its DC market position for many years and now I have the opportunity to play a part in its continued success and ambitious growth."

In her new role, Photiou will focus on making sure the company has a market leading DC proposition that attracts and retains corporate clients.

She will also sit on LGIMs independent governance committee (IGC) as a company representative.

Aaron Meder, head of investments at LGIM, said: "Workplace savings is a core area of focus for us – we want a market leading position that not only attracts new corporate clients but also delivers good member outcomes, no matter what their requirements are."

Meder described Photiou as a "person of outstanding drive and passion".

He said: "She has a distinguished track record of achievement right across the proposition development lifecycle. Her appointment serves to further demonstrate our scale and commitment to growth in this market."

L&G has also announced a joint venture with Cardiff-based developer, Rightacres, to deliver one of the City of Cardiff's priority regeneration schemes.

Using its flexible capital and partnership model, L&G seeks to secure the viability of socially and economically important UK schemes.

Having committed GBP 1.5bn to co-investing its core capital beyond London, into critical regional urban regeneration projects that support the UK growth, the deal is the second project to be delivered through L&G's Regeneration Investment Organisation (RIO) partnership.
