The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has appointed a new executive director for defined contribution (DC), governance and administration.

From April 2013 Andrew Warwick-Thompson will be responsible for overseeing the regulator's DC programme, which aims to ensure that schemes are run to a standard that can improve outcomes for members.

Most recently, Warwick-Thompson was a partner in the international retirement and investment practice for Aon Hewitt and was responsible for global DC and investment solutions.

TPR chief executive Bill Gavin said: "To support automatic enrolment we have significantly strengthened our DC directorate in the last year. Andrew brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise in pensions, particularly in the DC market and investment strategy, design and governance.

"He will have a pivotal role to play as we finalise our approach to DC regulation through our current consultation - and undertake greater DC casework, thematic reviews and targeted communications to improve outcomes for retirement savers."

Warwick-Thompson has more than 25 years' experience in the financial services industry.

He said: "This opportunity to join The Pensions Regulator has come at an interesting and important time for pensions, with the introduction of automatic enrolment and the increasing importance of DC schemes.

"The pensions industry and the regulator share the aim of materially improving outcomes for members - I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues and with the industry to pursue this goal in coming months."
