Alex Garton has been appointed head of institutional sales at Momentum Global Investment Management (Momentum GIM).

Garton will be responsible for developing partnerships with pension consultants and institutional investors in the UK, focusing on generating new business for the company's funds and solutions.

Previously, Garton worked at Baring Asset Management as director of client service and relationship development, where he was responsible for managing existing and developing new relationships with clients.

At Barings, he specialised in multi-asset products and managed more than 60 institutional client relationships.

Prior to this, he was director, corporate broking advisory, both at Evolution Securities (now part of Investec) and at Hoare Govett (when it was owned by ABN AMRO and then RBS) where he advised blue chip FTSE corporate clients on transactions and investor relations.

Alex said: "Momentum GIM is entering an exciting period in its development.'

Africa investment

Momentum GIM has also announced its Africa Real Estate Fund has now reached a total of USD 150million, after a further USD 103million was added to the fund.

The fund focuses on the development of retail, commercial and light industrial real estate in sub-Saharan African, outside of South Africa, and is suitable for long-term institutional investors.

The final phase of fund raising is scheduled to conclude in 2016 and aggregate commitments are capped at GBP 250 million.
