The Pension Protection Fund (PPF) has appointed Andy McKinnon, chief financial officer, as an executive director to its board.

McKinnon is accountable for the PPF's financial systems and controls, the valuation of its investment portfolio and the management of external suppliers.

He is also jointly responsible for the development of the PPF's strategy and performance.

Lady Barbara Judge, PPF chairman, said: "Andy has joined at a very important time in the PPF's development."

She said the PPF currently has more than £12.1bn of assets under management, more than 150,000 members and the organisation is expecting to expand its operations by bringing member administration in-house by 2014.

McKinnon joined the PPF in September last year after holding a variety of senior positions at Legal & General.

"Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in financial services to the PPF board that will help ensure that the PPF continues to deliver financial security for hundreds of thousands of pension scheme members across the UK," said Lady Judge.

McKinnon said: "I am very much looking forward to playing an integral role on the PPF board, particularly at this important time when the organisation is set to become the equivalent of one of the largest pension funds in the UK and a lifeline for so many people.

"I believe I can use my personal knowledge and experience to help the PPF to continue to grow and deliver real security for its members, now and in the future."
